ISCM World New Music Days 2022

Te Rōpū KaiHto Puoro o Aotearoa/Composers AssociaHon of New Zealand and the FesHval Team
are delighted to send you our second monthly update regarding the internaHonal double fesHval of
new music that will commence on 23 August—see

The festival will commence mid-afternoon on Tuesday 23 August, and General Assembly meeHngs
have been scheduled for the mornings of 24–27 August. The festival will move to Ōtautahi
Christchurch late morning on 28 August and conHnue until the evening of 30 August. Precise
details regarding hotel arrangements will be announced soon, so please start deciding if you plan
to attend in person, and/or if your organization will be sending a delegate in person. We will soon
provide a link to our Registration Form for all attendees to complete.

Some Asian Composers League Festival 2022 activities have been brought closer together, so the
duration of the festival has been shortened by one day: Ōtautahi Christchurch: 3.30pm, Sunday 28
August–2pm, Thursday 1 September. This offers you the opportunity to have more free time at the
end of the festival to travel or enjoy the start of Spring in Te Waipounamu South Island.

The final ACL concert will take place on the evening of 31 August; the only event on 1 September
will be the General Assembly meeting (12pm–2pm). We understand that prior to the festival taking
place, there will be an initial ACL General Assembly held online to deal with most matters other
than voting. A Country Report session will be held during the festival, most likely on the morning of
31 August, and the Young Composer Competition event will take place at 2pm on 31 August.
New Zealand’s borders will soon open to visitors from “visa waiver” countries and territories:
general-information/visa-waiver-countries If you are planning to attend the fesHval in person, we
recommend you check the list as well as Covid-related regulations requiring pre-departure
conditions for entry. These requirements frequently change, so if you are planning to come please

A majority of the works initially selected for performance via the submissions processes of both
ISCM and ACL are programmed for performance in the 2022 festival. However, a small number of
selected works will not be able to be performed, mostly due to player availability and restrictions
on visiting performers. If you are a composer and your presence is essential to the presentation of
your work, we will need to know by mid-May if you will be able to attend in person. Please email to advise us.

We are delighted that as Aotearoa New Zealand passes the peak of the Omicron wave, restrictions
on audience numbers at events have been mostly removed, so our larger events can proceed as
planned. Aotearoa is currently at the “orange traffic light” semng:

We will provide further details in our next announcement on 23 May.
